vectradam
How do people carry a drink with them on an event, I don't really want to carry a camelbak type thing but i get thirsty and i think it affects my concentration. Thanks
al_orange
I've seen some people with cycling bottle cages on the fork leg. I personally just stop ever lap for a drink as I also find it helps concentration. You can get pretty minimalist hydration packs now though. I hardly notice the one I use for enduros. stpauls
The trouble with Camelbacks, cycling bottle cages etc is that they identify you as an unskilled novice rider. Expert riders always carry their cups in their left hand and hardly spill a drop in the sections. hoodie2
I hate drinking out of a camelback but found quite a neat bum bag that carries a cycle dinks bottle. You get lots of that kind of equipment for distance and hill runners.
guy53
I tried a camelback a few years back, but came back to the bum bag with a small bottle that I refresh if needed at the end of a lap. Guy
trapezeartist
I have been wondering about using one of those 1 litre auxiliary fuel tanks as a drinks bottle.
teamferret
I put a small bottle of drink in my bum bag then leave it at one of the sections, having a drink on every other lap

y4m4
We ride at some high elevations where it's very dry and can be quite hot. Trying to complete a loop (even a short one) poses a serious heat stroke risk. I'm in the runners' water bottle belt camp. Keeps the weight low and I barely notice it if I cinch it down pretty tightly. The tiny pouch comes in handy for random items. I use the cheapest "squeeze" style water bottle I can get my hands on and try to minimize the amount of rigid plastic.
collyolly
Interesting that an auxiliary fuel tank is mentioned, that is a copy of the 'Thirsty' tank made and sold in the U.K. a few years ago, specifically as a drinks container. In fact I am sure Mr Tarres used one in the Scottish converted to carry his fuel ! Around 550 were produced and it took about 5 years to sell them, it was before the Internet was up to speed with the likes of e-bay so relied on 'trials specialist' outlets. The tool still exists but not sure the demand is there to enable more to be produced, biggest problem is the headlight has to be removed, Oh yea you have to do that to put on a number board ! pindie
USWE make a nice compact no bounce camelback type thing and also make a bum bag type one. Very solid looking bits of kit. I’ve not used one though. You’ve only got to lose a small amount of fluids before fine motor tuning is affected. This wrecks concentration and balancing quickly. Ideally, hydrating the days before an event is key, then just maintain levels during the day. Unfortunately beer doesn’t help one bit. God knows I’ve tried to make it work but it always makes you have a bad race/competition if on the lash the day before.
