Moray Kidd
Hello All - Newbie question....Can anyone confirm why (1) there are two plus in the swingarm and (2) there are two spark plugs in the engine? I am thinking (1) chain lube but I think there might be a nozzle in the bottom missing. Still can’t figure out why there are two plugs. (2) spare plug? Best wishes Moray
barnesy
The second plug hole is for a decompressor, I'm not sure what the second filler cap in the swing arm is for.
Moray Kidd
Thank you. Anymore information please? Not sure I understand. I’ve had enduro bikes in the past with decompression levers that lift the exhaust valve. How does the second plug work?
barnesy
The decompressor is a valve that that goes in the second plug hole operated by a cable and a small lever on the bars. They are used to aid starting and and can be used as a brake on slippy descents as tend not to break traction You can still get them from twin shock trials shops HTH
bultobill
I seem to remember the second "bung" was actually the tap and regulated the flow onto the chain?
teamferret
On the similar M/X engined montesa we used to start it on the 'spare' plug which was a soft one, warm the engine up before swopping to the centre position and heading out to the track.
dave_t
Front plug in swinging arm is filler for chain oiler, plug by rear sprocket regulates flow, there is a short metal tube below rear plug with short flexi pipe attached so oil flow is close to chain. thats how it was on the 247 I had many years ago.
