I agree. Rich on the pilot/air screw setting. Not necessarily a bad thing. It’ll be smooth and torquey. Once started without choke does it run ok? Mine is rich. I start with no choke then if need be lift the choke plunger a bit but without it clicking fully on. As soon as it seems happy I release choke fully and ride.

Thinking about it I can’t remember the last bike I had that needed the choke every time to start it?

If it’s starting and then runs sweet once warm I’d not worry.

Starts and rides very nice without touching the choke. I’ve only had issues when using the choke. I’ll use a little choke if it doesn’t want to start from now on, other than that I won’t bother with it. Thanks for the advice

Change the needle valve, check the float, confirm correct float height, seems to me it's probably leaking the contents of the fuel pipe into the manifold and reed cage as the bowl overflows, I had a horrific experience on my 300 Beta after transporting it back from a ride on my trailer, I forgot to turn off the fuel, when I started it after washing it it ran absolutely flat out, nothing would stop it not the lanyard or pulling the plug cap, I guess because of the speed it was dieseling and igniting fresh mix into the cylinder off the exhaust just leaving, it stopped after around 20 seconds or so and started up normally. Such fun! I literally soiled myself.

Sorry, can't agree with you there. The choke circuit etc is fitted for a purpose, starting (from cold) ! If you don't have to use it there is a problem with your carb.

I have a similar issue. New for me 2015 beta 300 4t. Bike ran good and easy to start, just running rich (lot of back firing). Parked the bike overnight. Wanted to start it the next day, started first kick with choke. Pushed in the choke, but apparently not far enough. Let it run, and was wondering why the engine sounded so different. After a while (couple of minutes), I finally checked the choke and noticed it was not pushed in totally. Since then, bike is almost impossible to start, only with choke in the short position and the engine revs like hell. As soon as I push the choke in, the bike dies.

What might be the cause of this problem?

Thanks!

Plugs don't like over rich mixture, new plug would be my first move.
