315 Softer Clutch ?

Had a question put to me the other day, and want to see what you lot know, if you were to leave a plate or two out of the clutch pack, would it make it softer ??? Don't go slating me, i was just curiuos what the result would be.

I personally have no problem with mine (being a Haven pack).

You can't leave plates out.......but you can do what I did with my last GasGas. I got 6 new clutch springs made slightly weaker than the stock. Clutch was lighter, and luckily it didn't slip (just!).

I plan to do exactly the same with my 315.

IanJ - Did you get those lightened springs and did they work ?

My newer bike has a really heavy clutch, back bled the system with new fluid, new sureflex plates and new Elf tranny oil, its still a pig !

What's the deal with the steel plates, read somewhere that if they're shiney they need dulling with some sand paper ? Other than that any thoughts ? Springs ?

Haven't tried it yet on the Mont.........will be trying weker springs within the next couple of weeks.

I did the de-glazing as suggested, which improved it but wasn't perfect.

So I've just put some Raceline plates in (Pattern part from Sandifords) - which are knurled on the faces - and it's way better. No drag and can find neutral everytime now.

I think that the springs aren't the issue, it's the steel and friction plates sticking together that makes the operation heavy and the clutch drag. The other effect is that a far smaller lever movement is required to dis-engage the clutch now.
