madproffesor Posted February 2, 2006 Report Share Posted February 2, 2006 I am restoring a pre pinky TY 250 with a group of school kids in Thailand and I am having problems with the front wheel spindle. Is there a specific tool or does anyone know of a suitable alternative. Obviously getting genuine tools is an issue out here. Any general help would be appriciated. madproffesor Posted February 2, 2006 Author Report Share Posted February 2, 2006 Thanks for that. Mine seems to have a twelve sided torque insert. Did you fit the allen key into that? charliechitlins Posted February 2, 2006 Report Share Posted February 2, 2006 Never seen anything like 12 point on a TY. Try some penetrating oil and mild heat on the nut side. arun1664 Posted February 2, 2006 Report Share Posted February 2, 2006 I think my Pinkie had the 12 pointed star you talk about. If I recall I used a 3/4 inch ratchet drive. Failing that a square profile will fit into a 12 face internal so maybe get hold of a bit of stock steel rod, alternativly time to introduce the kids to the art of filing ! Disconnect the front brake cable, tighten the clamp back up on the spindle, take off the front mudguard and brace, loosen all of the pinch bolts in the yokes, slide out the wheel and forks as a complete unit.........then grab hold of the top of the forks and use them as a lever to undo the spindle. kevin j Posted February 5, 2006 Report Share Posted February 5, 2006 My TY350 fits a 'Torx' driver. I don't recall the size, they are named as T10, T15 etc. Try your local industrial supplier as Torx screws are common now.
