didado
Recently bought a brand new 'used' 2017 Vertigo Fajardo 250 with literally an hour or two max on the clock, lucky me. Anyway, lovely bike but one question about the chain link fastener. It is mounted on the inside of the chain? I have never seen that on a motorbike before. Looks like a pain in the ass to change and was wondering why they chose this 'design"? What's the reasoning behind this akward location. trapezeartist
It’s not “design”. Any chain spring link can be fitted that way round. I think the theory is that it’s less likely to get snagged and pulled off, but that seems a tiny risk. I’ll settle for the convenience of doing it the conventional way.
jamo_duval
People do this to save knocking it off on a rock, but if you spit the chain off and it wraps round the front sprocket it can prove a bit of a nightmare if you cannot get to the split link to split the chain if you need to. I have the link pointing outwards and have only lost a split link once in 20 years of riding. You could always keep a split link cable tied to your bike if you were paranoid!
ksv
As above, it's a lot easier having them on the outside. Just remember to always have the closed end of the clip pointing in the direction the chain travels (as it is in the picture).
didado
Thanks for the answers. When the time comes to take off the chain I will reverse it. Seems overkill. Never lost split link yet.
