Davybull072
Just about to start rebuilding my 2001 GasGas TXT 249. It has been sat in a shed for 10 years so need quite a bit of work. First job is going to be the brakes. Both calipers are Hebo and sticking so not working right. I believe that neither the caliper of the repair kits are available. Any solutions? Cheers. Dave. reggie
Find an AJP or Beta (grimeca) front caliper this will bolt on with very few issues. On the rear , I believe that there is a retrofit assembly available, I do not remember where I have seen it on the internet. Good luck. reggie
Apparently you need the complete rear brake system from a 1997 Gas Gas
Davybull072
Cheers Reggie, I will look into it. I might have sorted the front and I know that there is a retrofit AJP for the rear if I need it although it is a bit pricey. Dave.
Davybull072
Front working perfectly but the rear caliper is scrap I'm afraid. Can't find one second hand and no-one seems to have the conversion kit anymore. DAMN!
turbofurball
The best option, then, is probably to get any other trial back caliper and get an adapter machined up to make it fit ... time to get creative
totty79
In what way is it scrap? If the pistons aren't too pitted and the seals haven't perished or torn you might get away with a clean polish and rebuild without a repair kit. Sourcing seals and pistons by size is a pain but can be done, you can also have pistons machined.
Simba
All you need to do is google brake caliper seals, for the brake piston diameter you have. All caliper piston seals are square profile. I have also done this with brake pistons. I recently rebuilt an old hebo caliper, none of the parts I used were listed hebo parts.
Andy B
Hi Simba, Could you remember where you sourced the seals for the rear hebo caliper? I'm drawing a blank and have even sent the caliper to seal specialists and they can't find a seal to suit. Cheers, Andy.
