stpauls
Hello The Beta Evo 200 was much appreciated by older riders, who wanted a softer, less aggressive power delivery. Can anyone enlighten me as to when Beta ruined the Beta Evo 200cc by lightening the flywheel, raising the compression ratio and other "improvements" which have spoilt the soft, mild, tractable nature of the engine, making grip elusive in difficult conditions, even for experienced riders? The 2020 models still had the above "improvements". Do the 2021 and/or 2022 models also suffer? Thanks
nhuskys
I have a '21 200 Factory and ride in very slippery conditions. I find the power very smooth, especially in the wet map setting. I am going to add the Beta heavy flywheel. A standard Evo 200 can use the S3 flywheel weight.
cleanorbust
As I recall the 200 was introduced under John Lampkin's guidance as the optimal tool to deal with Britain's slop and slime. Shame if it's character has been transformed to suit Euro tastes.
gasgasman280-
Had a rev 3 200. Now have an Evo 200. Beta have not changed the engine characteristics much at all. The older Rev felt like it had a heavier flywheel but I never bothered checking. The 200 is the ideal entry level/beginner. If your screwing up on one of these then you probably shouldn't be riding trials

I have spoken to several VERY experienced riders in the south of England, Expert, former Expert and Clubman riders. These have been riding 2019 models and new models purchased in 2021. They have ALL complained of the same characteristics, which are that the engine spins up too quickly. A side by side comparison with the flywheels from a Beta 250 and a Beta 200 shows that the flywheel mass on the 200 is substantially less. Additionally, there is no tapping for an S3 flywheel weight to be fitted. Bikes have been cured by fitting a flywheel from a 250 and an extra base gasket. Possibly other mods too. Never mind the comments about screwing up from the galah, my question remains; why did Beta ruin the Beta Evo 200 and do the latest 2022 models still have the lightened flywheel and raised compression? nhuskys
No part numbers available for '22 MY, but from the press info my guess is they are the same. Not sure why Beta would change the spec? This bike is most popular in the UK and USA. The 200 isn't even listed on the main Beta Italy website. Conditions that we ride in the Finger Lakes region of NY are very similar to Southern England. BVM Moto vids of local club trials look quite familiar. I'm coming from an '18 Scorpa 125 Factory with an add on S3 flywheel weight and haven't ridden an older Beta 200. As I said the power seems smooth on my '21 to me. I added 2 teeth on the rear sprocket, as it has a faster ground speed than my 125. I do miss the heavy flywheel and will be adding the the Beta accessory heavy flywheel later this week. I'm not sure how the weight compares to the standard 250 flywheel? I'm guessing it's heavier, as it's an option for all 2T models. The 200, 250, and 300 all have different part numbers for the flywheel.
hoodie2
Does it depend where beta start from when creating the 200? I've heard they have built 200's as sleeved down 250's with the same bottom end, which are mellow but some years are actually bored out 125's. I had a 2012 which I think was 125 based. It could be quite sharp. Somebody will know which way they went for different production runs. Edited September 7, 2021 by hoodie2
dan williams
I think the answer lies more in what parts are in the bin. Traditionally the 200 has been the option that used the leftover parts since it wasn’t a “prime” competition model. A few years ago the bigger models switched over to reversed ignition systems with the stator on the outer cover. The 200 used the older design. It’s likely that the 200 has evolved as old parts stock are exhausted rather than a conscious decision to change the bike.
wheelieman14
Up close view of 2021 Beta Evo Factory 200 Flywheel, which now appears to be very similar to the Flywheel used in the bigger brother Evo 250/300 models, but turned down for less Mass. S3 Flywheel weight Part# FW-BE (weighs 13.7 oz.) was intended for older Evo 250-290 models (with plastic flywheel cover), but should fit at least through 2019 Beta Evo 200 Standard models. Here is reference of Flywheels for later model Beta Evo models: 2021 Evo 200 Factory stock flywheel (as shown in picture) weighs 5 lbs, 4 oz. 2016 Evo 300 stock flywheel weighs 6 lbs, 4 oz 2016 Evo 300 Super Smooth (Beta Part# AB-80015-H) weighs 6 lbs, 14 oz Edited September 14, 2021 by wheelieman14 Added actual weight of S3 FW-BE add-on Flywheel weight
dera
The flyway/rotor beta parts number from the page: https://www.beta-uk.com/index.php?route=common/partsfinder It looks that the models 2016-2019 have one flyway and 2020-2022 have another one. lineaway
The problem lies in 2016 when they moved the stator into the cover instead of the engine side. Moving the mass more into the center for better handling, but not better traction in the wetter conditions.
RogueGeek
Has anyone tried putting a 250 flywheel on the newer 200? And noted the weight difference? Thanks!

I'm very happy with improvement in how the bike works.
