garydwall
Hello can someone please advise me. I have my engine split to replace the crankshaft bearings. The crankshaft is stuck in the flywheel side of the casing. I've tried a tap with a rubber hammer but no joy. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. See pictures Thank you very much
zippy
Tap harder. May need to use a metal headed hammer to provide a decent shock to dislodge the crankshaft. not a HARD hit, but a good tap.
richt
You just need to start it moving. Try a hammer but usually I use a "Copper Knocker" as they don't bounce back instead they provide a dead hit meaning all the force is used. It's a bit of strange science but it works well. garydwall
Thank you very much for the replies.... Sorry just one other thing to ask. What is the best method to remove the bearings then... thanks Gary
mcman56
If the bearing is stuck in the case, use something like a heat gun on the case. (Aluminium expands more than steel when hot.) There is a tool made for pulling the case off. https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/tusk-crankcase-splitter-p
