how long should it be before the fan starts to run?

ive had the bike ticking over for 10 minutes and no fan yet i rode it for 2 hours at the weekend and although i never heard the fan run surely it must have been as the bike ran non stop for the whole time and did not suffer.

i'm using it at a trial for the first time this weekend as a precaution can i bypass the thermostat and if so how?

Check coolant level, and leave as it is for the next time you ride. The fan should come on, if not the coolant will boil and start coming out of the overflow. If this is the case then join the wires together the fan will run constantly and be fine, the coolant may need topping up, be carefull taking top of as it will be hot.

I have runn for several hours with the wires joined and fan running constantly, change thermostat ASAP.

If fan does not run with the wires joined then it may be the regulator or the fan itself.

If its one of the older models with the thermostat at the top of the rad. then pull off the plastic cap on the right of the tank, inside you should find 2 single wire connectors a male and a female, connect these and the thermostat is short circuited and the fan should run.

I Just replaced my Regulator

fan just stopped working, took it off & the regulator was melted

No wires touching frame or bare so who knows what happened to it

Maybe it was the cartwheel it did 30 mins beforehand that didnt help!

Oh well
