ssaulnier
I am looking for a new trials bike. I have a 1996 Beta Techno. Its still running OK, but I would like something newer and lighter with a right side kick start, a smooth clutch and a steeper fork angle than the old Techno. The new 2023 GASGAS TXT looks good on the Trail Tube and KTM-GASGAS videos. Has anyone ridden one yet and what do you think? Thanks, Steve
kennygnc123
I just purchased the 2023 Gas Gas 250 GP. Everything about this machine is better than my 2014 Sherco. The suspension has more jump, everything is smother, I can go slow without locking up the brakes. This seems lighter. I even have started to feel my splatter timing and jump might be working. I am super hoping service and parts will be easier to get a hold of. The shop I purchased it from told me that he had to sell one or two along with all the other KTM and Husky motorcycles. My only issue after putting 20 miles on it yesterday is starting. You have to work the kick lever until it's at the very top to get the compression right and you kick real hard, nothing. Warm or cold it was really frustrating. I found a site those guys said lay it down, so the carb is slightly flooded, or pump the lever a few times to move the gas, kick it from the top. The manual says no throttle. Most times I kicked 10 plus times stopped and cussed, 10 more times, IDK after resting some it would start. I might have been flooding it. One writer said starting Gas Gas bikes is a right of passage and when you figure it out or after brake in more they crank right up. Two times it cranked right up first or second kick. Once running I was a happy camper. It never stalled. I'm not a very good rider but super enjoyed this and have no regrets buying it.
Tuju
I just bought a 23 racing model 250. I'm coming off of a 99txt 300. Have been riding it a couple of weeks now and really like it. Big improvement, as there should be. It's better in every way. I'm new to trials rode the 99 for about 6 months. I really like the responsiveness of the clutch, much better control. I've all ready cleaned a fair amount of obstacles that I struggled on. My scores will improve on this bike. Not sure if you are in the US or not, but some great deals on them right now. I can commiserate with you on the starting. I did not see anything in the manual about throttle application. I have had it start both ways. With and without throttle. I have noticed if you use throttle, it needs a lot. Much more than just cracking it open when kicking. I need my left foot on a foot peg or on a step to get enough muscle into the kick starter to fire it up. I cannot seem to kick it hard enough while standing on the ground. My son seems to be able to do it however. I haven't got this thing figured out yet. If you learn the trick, please let me know. lol Aside from that, the bike is great! My son has a 2014 Sherco 300. Another fine machine. I think I like the GG better though.

Engage the kick starter to prevent damage then *sharp-fast-kick* You may benefit with going a size larger on the pilot jet, I think I did. Starting it is zero concern once you figure out the fast kick.
garydwall
On the starting issue try this.... Don't kick it from top dead center, First put the bike in second or third and roll it forward then backwards with the clutch out. Piston is now at bottom Dead centre. Now pull the clutch in and one last roll back to fully disengage the clutch keeping the Piston at bdc. One sharp kick and your running....
Yoyoer
I just bought this bike and so far I like it. Nice lines, geometry and power. I’m happy I went with the 250 and not 300. I have one gripe with it tho. The splash protector above the air box is really loose and rattles around, it doesn’t really lock down well when you turn the knob. I’m wondering if this is a bad design or just mine. Anyone else notice this? Also I thought it was really lame you get nothing with this bike. No sticker, manual, tool kit, pen or anything. Literally you get the bike and if you want the manual you can download it online. It’s a bit of a moot point but some how this takes away from the “welcome to the club” feeling. Glayne
Agree. What could a manual cost to print? Nothing like working on a bike with greasy hands trying to fumble through my phone because I don't have a computer in my bike shed... Screen timing out and shutting off... Need a paper manual. Also would be nice to have a manual that is only in my preferred language that only covers the exact model I am working on, but we probably don't have that technology to make that happen. Would cost even less to print.
lineaway
This is funny. If you want a real manual buy a Montesa. Downloading off the web is pretty damn easy. I remember my expensive '92 Beta the manual was basically the sales brochure.
turbofurball
My '99 Sherco basically came with a poster when new, the "manual" was a table in the middle with a list of the important numbers. Presumably the assumption is that if you buy such a specialised machine you already know how to maintain it!
apriljo
Love my 2023 gasgas. Bent the fender flat over this weekend. It just bent back and I kept riding. Learned the bottom dead center and fast kick tricks mentioned in these forums on my last gasser, I’ve never had a problem starting them since. First or second kick every time. Definitely improved on the 2023, I can even start it without choke now.
