Seeing as how EM buys a standard charger out of China, their logic is severely flawed.

Oh, and just to be clear, I'm shocked that it could cost only $12k USD.  I had been anticipating something like $16k (not saying I think it's worth that, however).

It is £9,300 in GBP which is less than the Escape.  A new KTM EXC 250 Six Day is £10,550.

If I sell my TRS and my Honda CRF I could afford it.  (Or the wife's Ducati....)

So 9,300 GBP equals 11,720 USD today according to OANDA's currency converter.   I am stunned.  I thought the 2023 Comp was like 12k GBP.

I think the prices have gone down a little.  The cost issue was not helping develop a big market for the electric bikes versus the ICE competition.

I am still keen to see what the other brands come out with.  Both GasGas and Yamaha have stuff in the pipeline.

When I follow that link from the US, it says, "$11,980.00   Tax included.  Shipping calculated at checkout."

Yes, dollars.  I realize your price includes VAT, whereas mine would not.  But that can't possibly be right.

I get $18,158. Presumably AU$ for me. 1.5 times the cost of an ICE bike & still need to add in shipping & local taxes. I see a very niche market for this bike unless it is actually better performing than current ICE bikes!

I'll be interested to see the final AU distributor's pricing.

By a strange coincidence we bumped into a friend last night at the (mountain)bike shop.  Her son is a good trials rider and is at Inch Perfect this weekend to try the new Factor-E.  She thinks they (Inch) might let him have a deal on a bike to showcase it.

I have asked for a full report so will post up if we get to know anything.

US Dollar prices for the States on their W3 now:

Plus the spec in Imperial measures.

To me the most interesting sentence in there is,

  • New software integrating engine speed drop management

That's exactly where I've been trying to go, & is the electronic equivalent of a flywheel.

I wonder if they've implemented it as simply "speed drop" or if it's bidirectional (& asymmetric). If it's uni-directional then I predict they'll shortly introduce a bidirectional version.

I don't believe we're close to being able to completely replace the flywheel, but this is a really big step forward.

In my view it's impossible to build a really good electric trials without direct control of RPM rate of change, up & down. A flywheel does that for ICE bikes, a combination of flywheel & electronics is going to be the optimal solution for e-trials, at least for a while yet and I'm inclined to think possibly long term too.

Now I'm starting to get interested in EM.

Looks like the new motor/battery on the other bikes is the plan.  The latest offering here on the MY2025 epure race looks like the same motor but no gears.  Oddly this bike is not on the manufacturer's website.

It would be reasonable to assume that the new motor and battery offer advantages regardless of the gearbox (weight, cost, bulk) so it would be crazy not to use them on the Race too.

I tested the factor E at the Tennessee round of the NATC trial in late June. It was the first electric trials bike I was able to get on and immediately feel at home. I have ridden several EM models with and without clutch, my wife rides a 2015 EM, A friends Mecatecno.

I thought the bike was brilliant, for a clubman rider going on 60, can’t say how it would work for all skill levels. If Geoff Aaron is to be believed he says he rides expert level obstacles routinely (he is the US ambassador for EM).

Anyway my factor E should arrive in late August. Very much looking forward to the reduced maintenance. I have two grandsons that are up and comers and staying on top of those bikes is more than I have time for as it is.

Another promo vid from Inch Perfect.  OK - it is a marketing and sales thing but nevertheless interesting, if only to see the bike in the hands of someone that can ride (ie not me...)

These are obviously going to be the type of bikes that make it even possible for the sport to continue in the new world without polluting gasses  but £10000.00 is just way off the mark for something that gets used once a month or whatever in the real world , they need to sell the motor/box/controller and battery as a kit that fits directly into say  all 2011 on  bikes for a start up period so that take up can look like a possibility for ordinary riders or it will be too long a transition period probably ending in failure of the electric trials bike in the market  due too low take up as there will be few reasonably priced second hand bikes available for  quite a long time , or are people much wealthier than I think they are.

Yes, I pretty much agree with all that.  I would like one of these bikes but ten grand for what is really a man-toy is a bit more than I am comfortable with.  My TRS was five and a half and that was really a bit more than I wanted to pay but the post lockdown trade in prices were too good to miss.

There  are secondhand EM coming up at 4500 or near that on ebay from time to time.  2021 epure race is about that money.  My wife's is a good bike but the TRS is (well in my view) the better one (not by much).  Ease of maintenence and no messing about with premix, no carb cleaning, yeah - I'll go electric at the right money.  The Factor-e looks the business and I hpe to buy one when there are some secondhand ones about.

Hopefully the ex-demo stuff will get sold off at a decent price.  Sadly that little "blip" of prices has gone and my '23 TRS is not worth all that much as a trade in.

We are at Inch Perfect on the 19th and have booked an extended test ride.  I hope we don't like it too much or we will both want one.  Now that is expensive...  🙂
