would like some advice on wheather to by a Montesa 315r or a 290 sherco

i have max 2000 to spend

i am upgrading from 96 gasgas jtr 270.

will be using it for kentish trials (i.e mud and logs) novice/inter and lots of practicing / jumping and larking around

would like a lighter more modern bike

i love the fact that the Montesa has a honda engine (i had a crm 250 and was over the moon with engine).

have ridden the sherco and liked the light feel and buckets of power (if a little too much) am worried about reliability especially if im buying second hand, if previous owner hasnt change oil/filters etc.

not too keen on doing shed loads of maintenance every week and want total confidence in the machine.

any help would be apprecieted

Lol thats one way of looking at it 'spose, just to let you know sherco's do have a fair bit of power bit if you get a slow action throttle cable thats easily sorted :)

Also shercos are lighter i believe so should suit you better

also think about it maintenance wise (not against sherco but just sayin)

My mate has a mont and tends to occasionally maintain it and its fine apart from back brake (his fault)

Either bike will be fine but get a 250 sherco as the 290s rip up the mud in our centre and dont track as well

The Montesa is the heaviest of the 2 stroke trials bikes. Built like a tank and weigh about the same! LOL

As bout as reliable as a tank too.

From what I've learned talking to alot of folks is that the Sherco to get is the 250.

As you probably know, the lightest bikes are the Gas Gas Pro's.

Alot say that lightness is overrated though.

Don't let Colin Chapman hear that or he'll roll over in his grave!

Just my opinion.

thanks for advice.. sounds like the vanilla chocolate analogy is about as close to an exact answer.

i think both bikes are on a par with each other so will see which dealer can come up with the best offer..

will let you know outcome

thanks again

MONTESA! my dad has a 2004 315r and it's brilliant, we've had no problems whatsoever on the bike it is very low maintenance and has bags of power. as for the sherco, my friend had one and after a year it was f****d. personally i would get a gasgas, because they are the best. but between the sherco and the mont, MONTSA all the way. :)
