I had a prob wih my 315r clutch dragging. From great advice from you all i now have a drag free ride. However i tried new and lighter oil which made no difference, checked the plates and discs for wear, replaced them with newer ones, but still the problem stayed with me. I took the following advice but only to a ratio of 5:2 and could not believe the difference. Well pleased!!! Hope this is a help to fellow sufferers!!!!!!

:wall: "The stock clutch has 4 cork plates and 3 friction plates. The friction plates allow the clutch to be "slipped" more and gives it a very broad engagement point. All the Team Montesa riders (Dougie, Fuji, Chris Florin) use the stock clutch. They use a combo of cork and friction (6/1 or5/3).It makes the clutch much quicker for Champ sections yet it is still very progerssive."

:D "if the clutch is the original unit, it may be time (after 5 years of service) to replace it. Clutch plates get worn smooth after years of use. Smooth clutch plates will not release easily and will cause the clutch to drag. The metal plates can be sanded with 400 grit paper. This will help them release.

The Montesa has 4 cork and 3 friction plates. The friction plates give it a smooth engagement point. If all you care about is eliminating drag then use all cork. Be warned an all cork clutch will be quicker. Check with your dealer or your distributor. I Canada it is DMI.

It is VERY important to use the right oil in the clutch. Silkolene "Light Gear oil Off-Road" 75 wt is what we recomend. ELF HTX 740 is also very good. Pick one brand, buy enough for a season and don't switch oils."
