flossieawol
Hi Guys I could do with some advice, I changed the fork seals on my 98 beta techno 250 about 3 weeks ago, put new seals in and new dust seals, and 360ml of 5 wt fork oil today on the bikes second ride out the Both fork seals have started leaking again. I'm at my wits end has anyone got any ideas??? The gold coating is worn to the silver crome on the stancions in places where the dust seals been rubbing, would this cause it? Thanks Guys John 1998 beta techno 250 lampkin rep
beta729
Are you sure that your fork stancions have no marks/scrathers with roug edges on them? ( it happened to mine and we couldn't figure out what it was!) If there are any rough edges file them down till they are smooth and then fill them with liquid metal and smooth that off! Even if you dont think that they have any marks on them it is worth a check!
stuessenhigh
yeah...even a small scratch sometimes seems to blow the seals...also make sure that the seals are REALLY well seated??
nsaqam
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't these paolis have a spring in only one side? If so then each side takes a different quantity of oil. FWIW
sirhc
Yes, All the forks are this way no matter the brand and they do take different amounts of oil
flossieawol
Hi guys, Yes I thought that as well, but if you click on this link http://www.beta-uk.com/B1998/FAQ1998.htm It says that both the left and right hold 360 ml of oil, the left fork has the damper in and the right one has the spring. Really stuck on this one, the stancions have no damage at all, Regards John FlossieAwol@aol.com
stuessenhigh
How are you putting the new seals in??...be really, really sure that they are seated properly, which sometimes takes alot of persuasion!!....that was a problem I had for a while, untill a mechanic friend showed me just how much
flossieawol
My local trials shop pressed them in for me and I rebuilt the forks/filled with oil. I've ordered some more fork seals and the fork bushes, really hoping this cures it!
terry
Here is a great link to RYP in the USA. It is the same Paoli fork as the Beta. I used these instructions to change seals on my '01 250. http://www.shercousa.com/pdfs/sherco_fork_...placement-1.pdf
