neonsurge
After all of the dumb-ass questions I've been posting recently re. smoky bikes and oil seals etc. I've decided to bite the bullet and get my engine professionally rebuilt. Is there anything I need to know or any gotchas to be aware of while removing the engine? Recommended sequence of steps? All advice gratefully received ('cos once this is done I can stop filling up this forum with waffle!)
austini
Take a few digi pics as you go along it will help with reasembly, especially the cable runs etc:
betatrials99
Watch your bash plate carefully as they tend to be under a lot of stress and may ping out violently and be very hard to get back in place. I recommend using a trolley jack to force the bash plate back into position.
arun1664
In addition to the above 1) get a couple of clean plastic crates to put the bits you take off into 2) use some sticky tape to label parts you remove & cables you disconnect 3) take some time and think your way through the job first, try to spot the problems before you get to them 4) dont bodge, use the right spanners & allen keys 5) dont rush 6) have beer in fridge
pa.
With the sump gaurd which will be bent and under tension, take it and the bike to a workshop with a press and spend 10 minutes gently bending it back to form. Do not flex the rear bolt tabs as they will snap.
