trial pat
Hy from Switzerland Pre 65, although not Trial (only the rider) My father Mark had to tidy up a room to make space for his grandson. He found a pic from about 1956, showing (Scottish 6 days winner)Gordon Jackson on a 500 cc AJS at an international Motocross in Regensdorf, Switzerland, where Mark was watching. The story was, that Gordon won in the last round, because he jumped over 2 hills in the last round instead of riding through the camel bucks like everybody did (and also the former leader till last round). Don't know if its true, but sounds like a legend, nice to believe in it. However, pic is nice and probably rare. Have fun. gordon jackson
Hi there, that particular motocross was in 1958 near Zurich. I don't remember going over both hills but I do remember going over one hill very high! It was very dry and very dusty like in an amphitheater, it was so hot one of the French riders fainted as I passed him. Thank you for posting the photo as I was able to show my granddaughter!
laird387
Hi, Gordon, Deryk Wylde here, glad to see you joining in the fun - have a look through my Offroad Archive sections and you should have pictures enough to keep your granddaughter busy many a rainy day! Trust you are keeping well. Cheers.
suzuki250
The G80 has to be one of the best sounding MX bike ever built, and that smell of Catrol R in the air! The first big bike I ever raced
laird387
Hi, When Gordon went scrambling he stuck to his AJS roots and used an 18CS scrambler - and you rarely saw those, most people opted for the Matchless versions, as ridden by works riders Dave Curtis and Geoff Ward. Here he has his AJS in a local event in 1955 where photographer Len Thorpe was pushing his photographic skills to the limit on what was obviously a dull grey day. How many pre-60 class scramblers still have a centre stand fitted! And how many ever tried to scramble with those hideous and ineffective 'Jampot' rear suspension units. Enjoy. mattylad
Isn't it fantastic that a legend has started posting on the site. Would it be possible for Gordon to describe the 1 dab ride in the section at the Scottish which I think is the most iconic photograph ever taken of a trials rider. Right place, right time, right everything! Was it planned, a safety dab, or an escape from a potential five? I would love to hear from the rider perspective. Thanks
