I was a spectator both days and was VERY impressed with the European Youth riders on their 125's. They made most of our Expert riders look really bad. It was almost embarrassing.

Here are their scores from Sunday:

YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL RESULTS

1. Alexz Wigg - 34

2. Loris Gubian - 36

2. Matteo Grattarola - 43

4. Sam Haslam - 46

5. Lee Sampson - 51

6. Alfredo Gomez - 64

7. Ross Danby - 70

8. Nicolas Karim - 71

9. Robert Andrews - 80

10. Christian Kregeloh - 91

11. Alexis Roscapana - 105

Here are the top three US Experts scores:

Ray Peters - 96

Will Ibsen - 105

Sean Bird - 109

They rode the same "green" lines.

Ray and Sean as well as Travis Fox who faired better on Saturday have ridden in the US "Pro" class.

I was also very impressed with the youth riders.Alexz and the others are very talented riders. But to make aliving on trials over here in the states trials schools and exhibition is the only way to make money. It was a great weekend to be in tennesee.Hope to see them alll there again.JR :)

Wayne, I got in trouble for saying the very same thing you just said. That was after watching my first TDN in 98.

Glad to see the US fans are finally coming around to the fact that our riders are not as good as some people thought they were. Maybe now somebody will decide to do something?

Nigel, NO WAY!

Maybe after he gets a few championships under his belt he could come here to try and make a living, like Tommi A. But not untill then and only then! There is still a huge gap in the levels of riding the big stuff! Risky business! :)

A couple of European Championships dont count then? I didnt see anything from any of your guys that Wiggy couldnt do right now. In fact, I would put money on him winning your championship in his first year.

I think Copemech was just having a laugh, but you lot are taking this way too serious, how many of those lad's riding this past weekend could of beaten Jarvis at that event? why wasn't he there? because there is sweet FA in it that's why.

The bike sales don't produce enough to fund big sponsorship, the public sponsor doesn't want to fund it, because! in reality the public don't give a toss about trials.

How has the sport increased over the past 30 years since the first WC event.

At the current rate of decline in five years there won't be a world championship, might be a good thing too.

Wiggy beat Jarvis at the Mitchell the other week riding the same sections....(Edit:This is wrong - see below) and everyone else come to that ! Someone else mentioned to me the other day that why doesnt the WTC have a pot to ride for? Then it would make it worthwhile to enter.. only problem! wheres the money going to come from!

Why would it be a good thing not to have a WTC?

Dear Atomant, I'm afraid youve got it a bit wrong ,Alexz did not beat Graham jarvis at the Mitchell, although he would have won the Expert if youths were counted in the same class. Alexz is going well but still has a mountain to climb to get to the level of Grimbo and Steve. Championship route is a lot more severe and although we asked for Alexz to ride this course in all the Appleyard series as a guest rider for no award or points, the T&E committee turned down the request. Maybe they are right as you have to ride all types of section to be a complete rider and Alexz is full of zeal to prove them wrong. Trials is a gentle progression in confidence and a too big a jump in section choice could halt progress completely , and this is probably the opinion of both myself and some of the members of T&EC. While I'm on my single digit reply,a word about the bikes used by us in the USA. It was a bog standard 06 125 Gas GAs pro, brand new and put together by me. We altered the gearing to 9x48 fitted my own Keihin carb,Ohlins shock and R type cylinder head. The only other things were Renthals and our Green Hope top yolk for luck. The bike had little or no break in time and performed perfectly. Everything else including the clutch bog standard. What other bike could get such results? Obviously Alexz is having a purple patch in form at the moment but it just proves that trials is about 90% rider. The other thing is that after chatting to John Lampkin one day he suggested that we dont even discuss larger capacity bikes until they are in the ballpark for us. Alexz has only one tool in the toolbox its a 125 and its the magical GAS GAS PRO. Maybe we could :) have got it going even a little better re jetting for the American fuel but had very little time and we erred on the rich side because of the bikes newness. Yours in Sport.B&LW.

oooops yeah, it was the Experts he beat! :D:)

He is having a purple patch but who else at 16 years old do you know rode with the same domination he is enjoying at the moment with so many other good riders about?

Thats a good point but who decides when the rider is ready to go up to the next stage. For example, Alexz was attemting a 10ft step in practice at the weekend without no fear. Nearly always in practice, Ross is riding bigger stuff than what we see in any championship thus far. Doesn't mean he will get up it but the point is he always wants to push the limits of the machine and his skill level.I bet thats the same for most of the youth riders wouldn't you say?

I say ask the lads what they want to have a go at then put it in.

Yanks should listen because the grass is greener on the other side? Because you know what the US Pro's need. I think it has been said about 1,000 times that the majority of the US Pro Class doesn't desire what you want.

onestophop, I have to agree with your view that the US Pro class of today is a wright off to ever "make it big" in the sport. Your very astute!

The question that reamains is do we wright off Cody and Smage as future world champions as well? Then next, how deep do we have to dig into the youth ranks for a future world champ? Maybe Oldar, or even deeper?

You ask tough questions! What's your opinion?
