barney
Going to look at a '00 315R soon and was wondering if there are any things that I should look out for that might show signs that the bike is in need of a large amount of dollars spending or has been poorly maintained. Thanks in advance. Barney
jaylael
Check the suspension linkage. The needle bearings are almost always shot due to water entry and lack of grease. Listen for unusual noises coming from the top end such as wrist pin noise or piston rattle. Check the wheel bearings for looseness, and look at the brake pads, and fork seals. Look at the engine skid plate damper rubber and if it is badly squished there could be cracked engine cases or inner clutch cover which are very evpensive to replace. Many of these bikes have liqid steel or JB Weld on the underside of the sump to cover up cracks. Just the first things that popped into my head. Good luck. fellonmelug
Having run a 315 for more years than i care to remeber, I can tell you that the bike is top drawer in the build quality dept. I have had no mechanical problems other than a back wheel partial collapse. Havent even had the head off !! just keeps running and runing
zanx
Mine is almost new and the rad mount has snapped so you might want to have a look at that. Ditto the linkage bearings and tophats, all mine were mullered.
