exiled yorkshireman
I think a beginners section would be a great idea because its not that easy to get info if youre a newbie. I've had to chuck myself round quarries in rochdale and swamps near preston talking to people to get info fine if youre the talkative kind like me but no use if your not so forward.. I too have ridden road bikes for 20 odd years and done all the track days ,TT course, Mad sunday and could happily share all that info / experience....however...i have no idea WHATSOVER about tyre pressures, flag marking system (seems to be different every furkin trial i go to! ), correct doses of 2 stroke oil , acu licence etc. As has been said , i'm presuming the sport needs people like me who are newbie's and looking to get into the sport, so anything that helps us getting started would be a good idea. I've no hard and fast idea's on the format.. just whatevers easiest for the author. my tenpenn'th for what its worth

lordlanky
I've been riding trials for nearly four years. After my first year I wrote a coupla pages on "My first year in trials" for my club's newsletter; sort of a thank you for all the help received. I'll need to edit it to "protect the innocent", but am happy to upload here if there is interest? Very much a beginner's point of view! Do the Mods want to have a look at it first to review? (Nothing dirty you understand... just a bit geeky...) Zim, Lord Lanky.

bilco
It's been suggested that I put a "Beginners Guide" page (or pages) together on the site that newcomers or those curious about the sport could be directed to. Being a non-rider myself, it's not the sort of thing I fancy writing. With the number of people on here and the wealth of experience there must be somebody willing to put fingers to keyboard. Any volunteers? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cracking idea pal. Now if that magazine trialsworld focused on the more technical feature's like maintenance and how to start and be involved with trial's the magazine would still be going today instead they looked at the professional side of the sport that was there downfall.we all know who the big wig's are in trial's. It's nice to see what the average rider's point of view is and there experience's and have abit of a laugh along the way. A comic page would be good aswell. plus the more begginners that get involved is only a good thing for everyone. So yeah great idea mate keep the site ALIVE. Andy
I'm presuming this good idea is dying on its a*** is it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not at all. I've been in this funny little place called Japan then straight back into real life job. That's me literally just back home. It's being worked on in the background. alikins
I'm a new rider, and would be interested in helping out with a guide if anyone needs "fresh eyes". If your going to use a wiki, I'd recommend mediawiki, but I'm not sure how well it would integrate with the rest of the site.

axulsuv
Andy ; I think it is a great idea... I'm a fairly well seasoned competitor who lost track of trials for almost 30 years !!!! And finding my way back after 3 wives and a whole bunch of other B.S. has been the best thing to happen to me in quite a few years !! But a newbie guide would be a wonderful thing ! And iff we could get all the dirtbike buying public to understand that almost all of the best enduro, motox , and even roadracers ride trials in one form or another to sharpen their skills and practice bike control fundamentals !!!! Glenn, and you do , do a great job too.......................
mikedabike
Personally I think its a great idea, whilst I (as most) have a bunch of friends of varying abilities, from novice to annoying!! I found this a while back and found it useful, http://www.trials.com.au/contributions/trialman.php but I am sure that it is not comprehensive. I am always up for a few tips!! Go for it and good luck

copemech
Ok, I feel better now! LordLanky(Zim), I am afraid you would need to change your image! Dark Lord of the Sith, possibly, for those older geeks like Andy, or Lord of the Darkside of a Skidpan! Loose the haloween costume and get yourself one of those spandex trials kits and Andy will be happy as a little girl to let you post helpful hints for the newbies, IF you let him watch! ned1
do you not think a frequently ask questions or faq section could be added instead of a 'begfinners guide' this way people can post topics that always come up such as tyres...what should i get? people could just do a review on all the tyres or tyres they have delt with ie.michelin, dunlop etc. this way there would be alot less 'repeated topics'.
