martinh
Hello, I have got an '05 290 Sherco. I want to replace the spark plug. The plug I have taken out is an NGK BPR5ES. The only spare unused plug I have is an NGK BP5ES. Looking on the NGK website, they recommend an NGK BP5ES. Do I need the R (resistor) version or is it OK to run the non R version? The bike does have an NGK Plug cap, that does have an ohms symbol on it, so I presume it is has an in built resistor. Also, what should the plug gap be? Thanks Martin Edited June 12, 2006 by martinh
andy_290
I bought an iridium one from www.sparkplugs.co.uk edit: NGK BPR5EIX Edited June 12, 2006 by Andy_290
telecat
I use the Iridium ones in NYL's too! They work a treat.
copemech
The BP5ES is standard, you do not need a resistor. Read my recent post on the 2.0 plug, same! The resistor in the irridium plug may nullify the benifits, primarily the ability to open the gap as much as possible for better ignition in this relatively low output system. The BP5EVX is the direct replacement for the "ES"(non resistor)! But go ahead and experiment and let us know how far you can take the gap on the "IX"!
