John Macdonald Road Trial Results

macclesfield trials club"I really enjoyed today's trial which had a good contrast of different obstacles and terrain. As this was my first time I'm sure I will return next year! Loved it" : comment by Chester rider, Lee Haselden. One of many positive remarks left for the recent 15th John MacDonald Road Trial held by Macclesfield Trials Club, which saw 75 riders turn out for the club's premier trial of the year set in the rolling hills of Wildboarclough.

What started out as a very breezy day on the tops of Wildboarclough the riders were both excited and apprehensive about the day ahead, with the phrase 'winter is coming' in many a riders head it was definitely noticeable that the long summer may soon be behind us; it was surely a cold morning. A generous number of riders gathered around Hazels Farm to shoot down a long, steep hill to the first eight sections of the trial; here they found a surprisingly tricky section one with a very juicy looking tree stump over which Iain Robinson balanced on the back wheel and stylishly did a quick turn of the bars, which actually made a cracking photo! After this they all gradually made their way across the fields, by giving their bikes the mandatory throttle-opening and naturally using some of the mounds as jumps whilst executing mini whips, of course this is all part of the fun of a road trial! Coming upon section four the riders found themselves at the bottom of a very lengthy valley in which they would ride section four to eight. Whilst riding these sections the riders would first find that due to recent downpour, the water was flowing and the mud was slippery; this was the story all of the way up the valley, though for some riders this was no problem. On the way the riders would also run into some very slippery rock slabs covered in water, mud and goodness knows what! If they managed to pull up the last hill of section eight this means they were clear of the first group of sections. Now for a long ride across fields and roads where you can either relax or open up the throttle and have a bit of fun! In the expert class it was a mere 2 points between the first and second place which through some great technical riding Chris Pearson took the win on a total of 5 with Sherco mounted Josh Woods second on 7 . Josh's 5 on section 16 on the first lap more or less ending his challenge for the top spot .
