The threatened rain was kind enough to stay away until the last rider completed the course but the overnight precipitation had made the going slippery and it deteriorated as the trial progressed.
Those quick off the mark were to benefit as several of the sections on the steep hillside lost their initial grass cover.
It was the early starting Bantams of Club 2 stroke champion Steve Thomas and Brent Cordon who finished clear of the field losing 2 and 3 marks respectively. Excellent rides in the conditions.
Section 4, observed by Club President Neil Anderton, was the one that took marks from all but one of the entry. That was Andy Webbe, on his little James for a change, who found a sneak line through the trees to use fresh grass to the exit. Even Vesty had to resort to footing up the slippery final slope.
However it was not to be Andy's day as he was caught out by the switchback climb at section 6 that dropped him out of the top 3.
Further donations were added to the Club's charities before the traditional exit to The Guide Inn at Cullingworth for the various excuses to be ridiculed.
