Henry Bendall had the only clean ride at the Sphinx trial on Sunday 19th April and so leads the ACU trail bike championship after the opening round organized by the Cheltenham HomeGuard club. Paul Sargant was second, taking a single dab on section 29 which was undoubtedly the hardest section of the day. Chris Koch, Joe Bendall and Gavin Moore all finished on 3 marks lost. Tony Coleman, David Sherlock and Robin Sherlock all had good rides finishing on 5 penalties apiece. All the top results were achieved on the venerable Gas Gas Pampera apart from Chris Koch on his AJP. The ground was dry so the section plotters included a few tight turns on the championship course but it was the slippery mud and roots of the penultimate section that caused the most problems for the riders.
