The Matt Russell Memorial trial was held at Nodewell Farm, Totland, courtesy of the Morgan Family, the Club would like to thank them for welcoming us back for this special trial.
Matt was a popular and a well-liked member of the Club. He was an accomplished Intermediate class rider who tragically and suddenly lost his life at the age of just twenty nine. His close friends, Ross Haydon and Simon Morgan were today’s course setters, assisted by young Alfie Haydon. Matt’s Dad, Tony Russell presented the ‘Matt Russell Cup’ to Nick Read, winner of the Intermediate class. Presentations were also made to Will West (best Expert) and Twinshock riders Nick Symes and Calvin Wright.
A very big thank you to the course setters – Ross Haydon, Simon Morgan and Alfie for providing us with eight excellent and technical sections. Thanks also to Viki Taylor for braving the cold and capturing some great images. On behalf of the Club I would like to thank everyone that turned out to support this trial and to all the riders for sticking to the marked route through the field.
The Club would like to welcome four new members – Dan Parkman, Andy Steele, Michael Brown and Luke Bowen Clarke. We hope you all had a good trial and we look forward to seeing you at future events.
The Expert class was convincingly won by Will West who finished with the lowest total of just seven marks. Brother Jim took second on twenty three. The Inter class was won by Nick Read who was the clear winner from Michael Brown in second and Shaun Harris in third. Ross Haydon headed up the Clubman class from rivals Mark Gray and Stuart Gummer finishing in second and third respectively.
Father and son duo Tony and Tom Read fought it out in the well contested Novice class – It was son Tom who earned the win from dad Tony in second. Brian Brockwell, despite finishing third today, definitely sealed the Novice Championship – well done Brian. Things were very close in the Twinshock’s With Nick Symes and Calvin Wright, both riders finishing on a score of nineteen. It was Nick who took top spot with twenty six cleans to Calvin’s twenty one – good effort by both riders.
The competition was also close in the Adult Beginner class, just seven marks separated the first three! Dan Parkman (in his first trial) took the win with Phil Silvester in second and Ben Wolf in third. Jos Wright also sealed the 2015 Youth Expert title with his win today – great stuff Jos. Harvey Grieve also rode really well to take the win in the Youth Novice class – well done Harvey. The youngest riders in the Club (E class) fought it out on today’s tricky course – It was Harrison Crickmore who just pipped Alfie Haydon for first place, by just three marks – good effort by both riders.
The next trial will be held at Haslett Sandpit on Dec 6th, courtesy of Mr Glen Draper. The usual start time of 12 noon. The Club look forward to seeing you all then.
