The final round of the 2015 Championship, The Duver Cup, took place at Haslett Farm, Shorwell, courtesy of Mr Glen Draper. The Club would like to thank Glen for welcoming us back once again. Thanks also to course setter Calvin Wright who was assisted by Jos Wright and Joe Ender – between them they presented us with eight really good sections. Thanks also to Mark Coombes who observed section four and to all those that helped clean up at the end.
The Club would like to welcome two new members Joe Ender and Reggie Price. Reggie (under Dad’s supervision) treated today as mainly a practise session. Reggie is just four years old. Joe Ender, even before he was officially a member put himself out to help Calvin set today’s sections – well done to both of them.
Will West once again stamped his authority in the Expert class, finishing on a miserly total of two, from Nick Read (who only lost four) with Jim West in third, only three more marks adrift – great riding by all three riders. The Intermediate class was convincingly won by Ben Read with Michael Brown in second and Shaun Harris in third. Mark Gray took the win in the Clubman class from friendly rivals Andy Scott Jackson and Stuart Gummer who finished second and third respectively.
The Novice class was taken by relative newcomer Andy Steele, losing just nine marks – good effort Andy. Brian Brockwell finished in second spot with Luke Bowen Clarke in third. In the Twinshock class, despite being dumped over the handlebars on section eight, it was Nick Symes who took the honours from Stewart Freeman finishing in second. Ben Wolf (Adult beginners) did well to stay ahead of Dan Parkman – just nine marks separated these two – great going guys.
The Youth classes were headed up by Jos Wright (Youth Expert) dropping just nineteen marks. Brendon Penn also rode well – but his punch card is still missing – his scores will be updated just as soon as we’ve found it! Harvey Grieve was the lone rider in the Youth Novice class and had to dig in deep to earn his ten Championship points.
New member, Joe Ender, as well as helping to set the course - went on to win the Youth Beginner class! Good stuff. Jacob Furnell had to settle for second place today after a lengthy absence. Things were pretty close between Harrison Crickmore and Alfie Haydon in the E class – Harrison just managing to stay ahead of Alfie to take the win.
The next trial is the ‘Father and Son’ Boxing day Cup, 26/12/15. Shorwell Chalk Pit, as usual, is the venue. Calvin Wright will once again be your course setter. I look forward to seeing you all there. Full details will be available from the Club website very soon.
