Unlike our friends at Red Rose who battled storm Desmond, Poachers pre65 Classic Trials Club ran its first December Charity Trial at Wrights Farm North Somercoates on a dry and sunny day. The venue, set amongst the dunes and sand hills on this costal strip of land saw course setters Errol Gowshall and Mike Gallagher set out eight sections that were ridden over five laps.
The initial first lap saw quite a few riders losing marks as they came to terms with riding on the soft sand but as the trial progressed the sand packed down and lines were established. This especially so for the Expert and Inter route that returned relatively low scores accross the board.
Clubman riders found it a tougher day with only four riders remaining in single figures, Callum Robertson on the big Pre-unit Matchless was the only rider to return a clean sheet to win his class. Certainly putting into practice some of the leasons he learnt at the clubs Mick Andrews Training day the weekend before. Section 7 was the mark taker for the day on all routes, a tough, tight, uphill climb through sand dunes, observed by Graham Dawson who was undoubtedly the busiest man of the day with only a handful of riders remaining clean on his section. One of those riders was eventual trial winner, Brent Cordon who put in a perfect performance on his Bantam to take the Expert laurels for zero marks lost. Mick Burnett on his Ariel won the Intermediate class just staying in single figures for nine marks lost.
The Club raised £173.00 for our local childrens hospice, Poachers next Charity Trial is on the 27th of December ar Benniworth Haven. Full results from from Sunday can be found on the Club website, www.poacherpre65trials.co.uk
