Fresh from his podium finish at the recent Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) defending British Champion James Dabill maintained his 100% winning run in this year's domestic series as he recorded his third straight victory of the current campaign. Having turned thirty years old just last month Vertigo factory rider Dabill was again in dominant form as he led today's third counting event in Wales from start to finish, his eventual winning margin being twelve marks over runner up Michael Brown.
In some contrast to the inclement weather that had opened the SSDT, today's competition was played out under mainly blue skies with the much welcomed sun overhead only disappearing behind the clouds later in the day. The riders were faced with three laps of twelve sections that offered a good level of variety between the dry hazards on the open hillside through to the muddy tests that remained wet and slippery in the shade of the nearby wooded areas. These were further added to by a loose gulley climb that punished anyone who lacked speed or line.
Typically, the fuel injected two stroke Combat coped well in the varied conditions with James being able to fully exploit the predicable power delivery and find the required grip to open up an initial lead at the end of the first lap despite making a mistake in the final section on his first attempt as he rushed to beat the interim time limit.
Despite this isolated error Dabill already found himself eight marks in front of Brown, an advantage he was to further increase over the following lap despite being thrown over the handlebars in the soft mud of the eighth hazard. By the close of the second lap James and his Combat had ridden themselves ten marks clear of Brown with just twelve sections remaining.
Continuing the same theme as earlier in the day, Dabill again delivered the best score of the lap and his third of the day on his final tour to put himself twelve marks clear of Brown as the trial came to an end. With three straight wins to date in the series, James now holds a healthy nineteen-point lead at the head of the general standings over his nearest title rival Jack Sheppard who finished in fourth spot today behind Jack Price who completed the latest podium placings.
Post event six times and reigning British Trials Champion James Dabill said. "Overall I am happy with the way I have ridden again today, apart from a couple of small mistakes I don't think it could have gone much better. I was annoyed with myself at missing a set of flags in the last section on the first lap as I tried to get in on time, but that was just one of those things. It's been a tough run of events with the the first two GP's, the opening BTC event and then the Scottish, so I am looking forward to the short break before the next World Trial in Germany later this month."
Dabill's Vertigo factory team mate Jeroni Fajardo was also on domestic duty today as he narrowly missed out on a podium placing at the second round of the Spanish series finishing just three marks behind Jaime Busto in fourth. Both Fajardo and Dabill will be back in action at the next round of the 2016 FIM Trial World Championship in Gefrees, Germany on 28/29th May.
