The Isle of Wight Motorcycle Club is proud to announce the 2017 Wight Two Day Trial - will take place on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of April 2017. The first Wight Open trial was held way back in 1947 and was a one-day event. In 1967 the decision was taken to make it into a two-day trial. In 2015 the trial returned to the original format - that included roadwork for some riders.
The Wight Two Day has attracted some very well-known names over the years, most notably, Sammy Miller (eleven times British & two times European Trials Champion) Sammy took the title no less than seven times and remains the rider with most wins spanning from his first title in 1967 to his last win in 1977. Sammy has agreed to make a special trip across the Solent to set the riders off on the Saturday.
Home grown, Becky Cook, the only winning female rider to date, won the title in 2008. Becky went on to take successive British & European trials Championships. A young Alex Wigg took the honours in 2006.
The Club took the decision to reintroduce road work (for some riders) in preparation for 2017, which will be the 50th, Golden Anniversary Trial. The Club thought it important to celebrate this milestone just as it began, back ‘on the road’. We are looking forward to a bumper entry in 2017. There will of course be the usual all ‘off road trial’ that will run in tandem alongside those riders opting to include roadwork.
All Riders, Observers & Officials will be given a special commemorative Golden Anniversary enamel badge when signing on. In addition, the Observers & Officials will be presented with engraved glass tankards or wine glasses. There will also be a Social evening on Saturday which includes a free disco and a free buffet. The bar will be open however you will need to pay for your own drinks! The Social is open to all Riders and their guests. We hope you will all join us and help celebrate this important milestone in the Club’s history. Full details can be found in the Regs and entry form.
Red Funnel Ferries are once again supporting our trial, kindly, offering discounted return ferry fares for those travelling from the mainland. Full details will be available, nearer the time, from the Club’s website.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Isle of Wight later in April 2017 for what promises to be a great weekend.
