The YMSA ran its' first trial of 2017 at Burycliffe quarry on Sunday. After the loss of the Burtons' dog,Hebo in late 2016 it was decided to rename the winter trial in his memory. The riders from all over the country were greeted by typical peak district winter weather, cold wet and windy ! The course consisted of 10 testing sections to be ridden 4 times, several of which became very muddy after a few bikes had been through.
The B class saw a win for Dan Slack on his MRS sherco, continuing his form from last year,in second place was Jack Dance riding his new gas gas for the first time,3rd place was taken by Harry Turner who rode up a route from his normal C class. The trial was won and lost in this class on the difficult section 6 which had tight turns, rocks and a climb out Over a double rock slab, all coated in thick Derbyshire mud,dan managed his 4 attempts for just a single dab compared to Jacks' 9 and Harrys' 14
The C class was won easily by national contender Ash Brightmore who never looked in trouble on what was a tough course with a loss of only 40,he was followed home by the battling Alfie Ray Turner and Alfred Alderman.
D class saw another win for Max Dance following in his big brothers footsteps,in 2nd place was the ever smiling ruben Hartshorne on his Gas Gas.
Youth novice rode the same route as youth C,and was an all girl affair with Daisy Parsons coping best with the tough conditions with a score of 89 to take the win from Libby Tett.
Probably the best ride of the day came in the expert class with Luke Walker rolled back the years by riding a 125cc machine for the first time in 4 years. He took a comfortable win. Proving that lack of cubes is no bar to success. Hugo Jervis made the long trip from north wales to claim 2nd on the podium. East midlands regular Tom Ablewhite completed the top 3.
The intermediate class,on the same route as youth B,saw the closest result of the day with Chris Brightmore taking the win by single dab from Nick Baker who had made the long trip north, south midland rider Chris Tett took a solid 3rd place.making it another good day for the Brightmore family.
Adult novice,on the same route as youth C,was another close thing, the win finally going to James Allen by 4 marks from Tim Blackmore with Carl Dickinson making a welcome return To YMSA events in 3rd.
The very competitive green route class saw a mix of pre 65,twinshock and modern bikes.the win was taken by Ash Hallows on a very nice twinshock Honda,Russ Kenward made his long journey north worthwhile with a good ride into runner up spot just 7 marks adrift, another single dab behind was James Williams in 3rd.
The first championship round will be on the 12th of February at Dudwood farm
