Two National trials with Gas GaS success at the weekend. Team JSTGGUK rider Michael Brown had a fantastic ride at the superb Cleveland National organised by The Middlesbrough and District MC. Michael won the event, losing only 5 marks and beating runner up Jack Sheppard on 11 and Jonathan Richardson on 14. Rarely mention myself in my reports but I'm back riding a bit now and I grabbed the intermediate class win which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was my 5th event of the year and I'm slowly getting better.
Another cracking event which clashed with The Cleveland was round 3 of the S3 Parts National Powys Trophy organised by the Mid Wales Club. Big shame these two events clashed but it can’t be easy sorting the Trials fixture list which must be difficult job for the ACU. The MRS Sherco boys won the S3 Class but the top Experts were the ‘real’ winners who rarely get a mention. Ross Danby just snatched the win again from JSTGGUK Team mates Sam Haslam and Dan Thorpe who were second and third respectively. All these three beat the S3 Class winner. Dan Thorpe rode with a recently dislocated middle finger which will be sore for a long time. Thorpey has been in awesome form so far this year and looks like he ‘manned up’ well on Sunday. JSTGGUK rider and 2016 Expert Class British Trials Champion, Tom Minta was 5th in the Expert Class who also lost 7 marks on time. GASGAS rider Darren Wasley won the Clubman class again.
It was also Round 1 of the Spanish Trials Championship for the TR1 class and no.1 Factory Team rider James Dabill had a bad day finishing 10th. Dibs struggled with the strange format of riding in a specific order and doing each section twice then moving on to each section. Dibs is a rider that likes to get on a roll and this couldn’t be done because the riders must stay in order. It is however the same for everyone and he will have to adapt because 10th is not where he should be. Casales also had a shock when he rode the BTC a few years but he soon adapted well. More on Dibs and the Spanish Trial Championship in the GG factory report.
You can see that the scores were close (attached) . Also strange to see Cabes and Jeroni 6th and 7th.
Well done to all and it’s now onto the infamous S3 Round Jack Wood Trial this coming weekend and also Round 3 of the X-trial World Championship for James Dabill.
