Loch Lomond Two Day Trial

Entry forms are now available the Loch Lomond MCC 50th Dan Stewart Memorial 2-Day Trial to be held on the 26th & 27th of May 2018.

Last years entrants will receive forms by email & by post from the 7th of January & anyone keen to ride who are not in the current mailing list can apply to the Trial Secretary Ian "Midge" Middleton via email to This email address is being protected from spambots. This event continued on from the Glasgow Lion 2-day trial in the late 1960's held in & around the Trossachs to the East side of Loch Lomond.  Active Loch Lomond MCC members of that time took up the baton to continue running this popular but declining event and in 1970 Danny Stewart approached his old school friend, the late Mr Robbie Lennox to seek permission to run one day of the trial on Shemore Farm ground. It was agreed & since then the trial has expanded onto connecting ground & farms all by kind permission of the late Sir Ivor Colquhoun & Luss Estates.

With that history behind us, this years event hopes to encourage as many previous competitors as possible through the decades with awards for Over 40, 50 & 60 competitors along with Best Scottish, Best MCUI & 'A' class school person & a Best Female rider if more than 3 entries are received. In addition to these classes, there will be an Expert class where that calibre of entrant will ride approximately 6-8 clearly marked 'Expert only' sections per day in the vicinity of the 'normal' section groups. No dual route sections.

With this format we aim to deliver an enjoyable traditional long distance 'no-stop' trial to suit all entrants abilities. We plan to run the 'full' single lap (weather permitting) on the Saturday of approximately 53 miles completely off-road taking in old favourites Auchengaigh, Glenn-na-Caorrin, Dan's Gully, Invergroin, the newish & remote Henderson's Gully as well as some recently discovered sections totalling 40 in all classes.

Sunday is planned as a less exuberant day with two laps of 25 sections over approximately 15 miles with many new sections now added to this well trodden route.

If you don't think your bones will stand the distance we are seeking bike mounted or 'on foot' observers/marshal's/general assistants to help us run this magnificent event. Contact the Trial Co-ordinator Kenny McLennan on 01333 429451 in the evenings please.
