Yorkshire Classic’s Premier event, the Captain's Trial, is normally held in March but had to be cancelled due to heavy snow. Fortunately, Clerk of Course, Adrian Brayshaw was able to re-arrange the date and 98 entries were received for the re-run. A dry but coolish day greeted the riders for a good day’s sport over 3 laps of 15 sections, with streams, a quarry and moorland to test their skills.
Former World Champion, Yrjo Vesterinen showed how it should be done, losing just 3 marks, in the quarry sections. Next came Nick Jefferies and John Maxfield, both losing 9. Next best was Roy Palmer on his Velocette, courtesy of Paul Jackson, losing 11.
In the Clubman class, Gary Holmes from the Isle of Man won the day losing only 4 marks, with 3 of those on Section 1, Steve Thomas was close behind losing 5, 3 in the quarry and 1 on the waterfall. For Clubmen section 7 was the hardest with nobody on clean all day and only Malcolm Cocking matching Gary on 1.
At the end, everyone thought the sections were excellent and had enjoyed their day. Our thanks go to the Landowner, Clerk of Course, Adrian Brayshaw and all his helpers, Observers and Barry Pickard for results and photos.
