Stroud Valley Sapperton Cup Trial

There was a ‘full house’ of 100 riders at Breakheart Quarry for The Sapperton Cup Trial. Dry conditions meant plenty of grip, but logs, roots and cambers could easily lead to lost marks. Overall winner Brett Harbud’s foot touched the ground only 3 times, an impressive performance by the young rider. Craig Talbot finished runner up with Jo Bendall a creditable third.

Dan Sanders’s investment in more modern machinery was rewarded by best clubman expert, although he felt he would have done just as well on the trusty ‘Yam’.

Tim Wheeler clocked the only ‘clear round’ of the day in the clubman class with Rob Faulkener two behind.

Sportsman Plus and Sportsman classes were well supported, with Steve Venn top in the S+ and a three way tie in the Sportsman class with John Sanders on a James and Nigel Tomkins, Bantam sharing one mark lost with Billie Andrews.

The conducted route was well supported. Jack Rich was best Youth E, and Henry Bishop narrowly beat Harry Bishop by one mark for Youth D top spot.

Many thanks to the Stroud Valley team and to all our observers for making the event a success.
