Corey Dubik rode well to keep ahead of his two main rivals at Buttyfold Farm on Sunday to win the Staffordshire Moorlands MCC Morlands Trial. Teenager Mitch Brightmore and Midlands ace Ben Sprigg kept him focussed all day as only 4 marks separated the first three finishers. The slightest mistake was punished in this tight finish as Ben Sprigg will testify as he had an unfortunate failure at the big step on Section 5 on the first lap when it was very slippery. Section 10 also caused some anxiety where Mitch lost 4 marks. Behind the first three Billy Craig, Simon Harris and Ashton Brightmore put in some good rides but lacked their consistency.
On the 50/50 Route Pete Ruscoe managed to come out ahead of Darren Jones by three marks followed by Ben Wyatt, Shane Harvey and Chris Tucker.
The Yellow Route was again very well supported where a large variety of machines were in competition. Andy Hipwell won the class riding his modern Gas Gas, followed by Liam Robinson ( 1970’s Greeves ), Steve Hitchcock ( 1980’s Honda ), Mark Weston ( Modern Gas Gas ) and Darren Cooper ( 1960’s BSA ).
The Clubman’s Route riders all seemed to enjoy their day especially when the slime had worn off the stream sections. Tim Wyatt did the honours from Doug Hall and James Sibley.
Many thanks to Mr Jeff Day for the use of his lands and to all the officials and observers who helped out with organising the event.
Our next event is the Bluestones Cup Charity Trial at Blackshaw Farm on July 21st.
