Grantham Pegasus MC & LCC kicked off their 2020 trials season with their New Year Trial at a very chilly Stainby quarry where no less than 64 riders took part.
The main award went to top local rider Chris Alford who kept his feet firmly planted on the foot pegs of his JST Gas Gas recording a perfectly clean scorecard over the 5 laps of 8 sections. Runner up was Dan Tuley who kept Chris honest dropping an equally impressive 4 mark total. Completing the top three was 2019 British Ladies Champion Jess Bown on her Birkett BVM Scorpa.
On the 50/50 route just a single mark separated the four stroke machines of winner Jamie Britcliffe, Montesa, on 8 marks and second placed Roman Kyrnyckyj, Beta, on 9.
Over 40 class riders dominated the middle route with regular front runner Andy Butt topping the results on 21 marks which was just 2 ahead of Mick Thurman who was showing he is recovering well from recent shoulder surgery. Jim York rode well to round out the top three. James Drury, Fantic was best Twin Shock and Catherine Alford rode well to be best Novice.
On the White route it was the Pre 65 James machine of John Hamblin that dominated. Only section three troubled John where he dropped 6 from his impressive total of 9. Youth beginner riders Reece McDaid and Tyler Atkinson both rode well in the tricky conditions on their Betas with Reece just getting the top spot.
