Heavy rain during the night and early morning made the opening round of the 2020 Yorkshire Classic MCC Championship at Lady Lane, with its rocky outcrops on the grassy hillside, a very slippery venue for the 63 riders apart from Jimmy Noble (Cub), who kept his feet up all day on the Premier Route, closely followed by John Maxfield (Bantam), Tony Calvert (Cub) and Ian Myers (Armac Cub).
On the Intermediate Route only Adam McCanna on his pretty standard Greeves Scottish managed a single figure score.
On the eased Clubman Route, Steve Thomas (Bantam) went clean for the day. As the rain stopped around start time, observers and spectators enjoyed watching the riders tackling the difficult conditions.
