A new victory for Toni Bou (Montesa Cota 4RT), this time in the Geneva Indoor Trial, second World Championship event. The Montesa rider was in command of the situation in the qualifying lap (1 point) and displayed his excellent shape in the first zone of the semi-final, inaccessible for all his rivals, which the plurichampion passed with just one point. A fall in the third obstacle did not stop him finishing as leader in this phase of the event, starting the final zone with four points more than his closest rival and finishing without increasing his score.
This new victory has enlarged Toni Bou’s advantage in the general classification of this championship (which he has won for the last five years) to 13 points.
Takahisa Fujimani (Montesa Cota 4RT) achieved a valuable podium position, with the same number of points as the rider classified in second position. The Japanese rider, who in the previous event almost obtained a podium position, finished the qualifying lap with 6 points and maintained his position in the semi-final (11 points), subsequently achieving the second best score in the final.
Toni Bou: "It’s been a complicated trial, as usual in the world championship, because there’s always a lot at stake. In the final, from the beginning, I was lucky enough to count on the slight difference obtained in the previous phase. I knew that I couldn’t afford any mistakes, but the advantage I had, although it was small, was enough to face the decisive moments with confidence. Of course I’m very satisfied with this new victory and this beginning of the season".
Takahisa Fujinami: "Last week in Strasburg I missed a podium position by very little and today I not only got there, but I almost came in second. It’s been so long since I got a podium position in an indoor event that I feel as if it were a victory. My start in the championship is very positive and I’ll do everything I can to continue in this way".
