Toni Bou (Montesa Cota 4RT) has regained the X-Trial World Championship title for sixth consecutive year after maintaining his unbeaten record in the penultimate scoring event, held this Saturday in Milan. Bou holds the new title record in this speciality, which up to now he had shared with his former teammate Dougie Lampkin.
Since 2007, when he began to participate as a Montesa rider, Toni Bou has won 28 of the 35 scoring events for the World Indoor Championship, finishing second in six and not achieving a podium position in only one event. Impressive figures for this rider, born on October 17th 1986 in Piera (Barcelona) and who, at 25 years of age, holds eleven world trial championship titles: Six indoor, and five (Also consecutive) outdoor. All riding a Montesa Cota 4RT.
Toni Bou was unable to celebrate his sixth title, as he would have wished. On the last zone of the final he had a bad fall and tied in points with the second classified. Even so, he found the energy to win in the tiebreak zone and won the event. Then, the now sixtime world X-Trial champion was taken to the medical services where a preliminary examination has ruled out fractures.
Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa Cota 4RT) was unable to complement the success of his teammate with a new podium position, being out of the final for the first time this season.
Toni Bou: "On one hand I'm delighted, as it's been a very special day that I'd been thinking about all week. This sixth title and six out of six possible victories are fantastic. On the other hand, I'd have liked to celebrate it in another manner. I had a very strange fall, hitting my back and head hard. I recovered from the dizziness and in the heat of the moment managed to win in the tie break zone, but I don't think I could do it now".
Takahisa Fujinami: "Firstly, I'd like to congratulate Toni for his new title, and even more importantly, I hope he recovers as soon as possible. With regard to my result, It was a pity no to be in the final, even more so as it was just because of one point”.
