Toni Bou (Montesa Cota 4RT) has taken a firm step towards what could be his seventh X-Trial world title by winning the Indoor Trial of Malaga this Sunday (Third scoring event), raising his number of consecutive victories in this modality to 19. With two events left to conclude the championship, the Montesa rider leads the general classification by 24 points. Toni Bou's victory has had a double value, as the Indoor Trial of Malaga began a new edition of the Spanish Championship in this modality, an event in which he is also defending his title.
Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa Cota 4RT) obtained his second consecutive podium position, with an equal number of points this time as the rider in second position. This result has moved the Japanese rider up two places in the general classification, entering the top three.
Toni Bou: “It's been an incredible afternoon, with practically no problems and feeling at ease on the bike. In these conditions, self-confidence and the work we have done is even stronger. I must admit that my lead in the world championship is comfortable, but there are still 40 points at stake and nothing is definitive. So we're going to continue like this and in Germany I'll concentrate on winning again, to ensure the final victory. This is a perfect start to the season, as I'm leader in the three championships we've started. I couldn't ask for anything better”.
Takahisa Fujinami: “This second consecutive podium position completely satisfies me. My confidence is growing and I'm able to overcome zones that I couldn't do in the past, which is very positive. My third position in the general classification is fantastic and of course I'll try to maintain it in the two remaining events. But I don't want to get obsessed, I'll jut take it zone by zone and race by race, and we'll see what happens at the end”.
The fourth and penultimate event in the X-Trial World Championship will take place on March 23 in Bielefeld (Germany).
