Toni Bou (Montesa Cota 4RT) has become leader in the general classification of the World Trials Championship after his victory in the second day of the French Grand Prix, held this Sunday. The Montesa rider, who finished second yesterday, was six points in front of his closest rival today, after this first two-day event in the championship, defending the title he has won for the last five years.
Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa Cota 4RT) significantly bettered his performance of the previous day and finished fourth, a result that was decided in favour of the Japanese rider due to the greater number of areas he got through without penalisation. Bou and Fujinami’s results made Montesa winner in the classification by manufacturer, becoming the leader in this section.
Toni Bou: "After yesterday, I didn’t think it was possible to finish this weekend with such a difference in points as leader in the world championship, so the victory has this additional satisfaction. The level of difficulty has not really changed, so we again suffered, as because it was an easy event, it was essential to avoid mistakes. The second pass through the zones has again been decisive, I was concentrated and achieved a definitive advantage".
Takahisa Fujinami: "I feel better than yesterday about the result, but I’m also unsatisfied, as I could have finished second. I made two absurd mistakes in the first lap, without which I could have finished just behind Toni. Apart from that, everything’s Ok. I felt much more confident than yesterday and I think that I’m the participant with the most zeros in the zones. This is great motivation for the next event”.
