Toni Bou (Montesa Cota 4RT) achieved an indisputable victory on the first day of the Trial Grand Prix of Australia, the third scoring event in the World Championship, held this Saturday. Rain and intense cold made this event extraordinarily difficult and the Montesa rider finished with less than half the points of this closest rival. With this victory, the plurichampion has increased his advantage as championship leader by 9 points.
Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa Cota 4RT) finished the first lap in second position and seemed to have a podium position guaranteed, when he suffered a technical problem in the second half of lap two. The Japanese rider ended in a tie with the third classified, losing the third position due to his lower number of zeros in the scores. Montesa wins again as manufacturer increasing its advantage in the general classification.
Francesc Moret (Montesa) was third in the Junior category, after finishing the first lap in second place, only two points away from the future winner.
Toni Bou: “It's been a tough and complicated race, on stones and mud, and everything went perfect for us, achieving a victory that makes you feel really satisfied. I felt very comfortable and saw the spectators enjoying our first visit to Australia. I only hope things continue the same tomorrow, but the zones will be eased and I fear everything will be much less selective”.
Takahisa Fujinami: “I started off well and was quite satisfied with my first lap. I was second and felt very comfortable. As the second lap was also going well, I saw myself on the podium. Unfortunately, technical problems changed the outcome and I lost the position by a hair's breadth. It was disappointing”.
