The latest round of the World Trials Championship was held in the heart of Liguria, at the foot of the castle built in the twelfth century by the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. The spectators and riders were rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view of the area.
With a first lap that was like a dream. Albert had only six points, 12 points fewer that Toni Bou (Montesa) who was second. Albert had great hopes of winning his second trial of the season. Alas, the second lap was more difficult for Albert, Toni Bou took 12 points and Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa) had 11 points. Albert hit an arrow with his boot which cost him 5 points and the victory. However with a total of 33 points, Albert remained on the podium with a third place finish. In the overall standings, Albert is in second place with 160 points tied with Jeroni Fajardo who is listed in third place (Beta).
Toni Bou is now assured of the title while there are still four riders who are in contention for second place. Albert Cabestany, Jeroni Fajardo, Takahisa Fujinami and Adam Raga are all candidates. The last race of the championship which will take place in Great Britain, in Penrith should be very exciting. The dates for that race are July 28th and 29th.
For his first Grand Prix as a World Pro, Alexandre Ferrer was impressive. On his first round he held back a bit. As one who usually watched the best riders in the world as a spectator he was now competing against them. With a total of 58 points Alexandre finished the first lap with 58 points which put him in 12th place. In the second lap, he took his bearings and rode much more relaxed. He finished that round with 35 points in seventh place right behind Jeroni Fajardo. This is an excellent result for his first race at this level of competition. In the end Ferrer finished 12th with 93 points.
With Alexandre moving up to the World Pro class, it was the responsibility of the three young riders, Cedric Tempier, Håkon Pedersen and Jonas Widschwendter to represent Sherco in the FIM Junior World Cup. With a total of 40 points, Cedric finished 10th. Just behind him, Håkon is 11th with 52 points and Jonas finished 13th with 74 points. In the overall standings, Cedric Tempier is ninth with 72 points and Håkon Pedersen is 11th with 64 points.
