What are you doing this weekend?

penrith bou in articleThe final round of the FIM Trial World Championship, the Lloyd TRC British Trial GP, is now just a few days away. Over the last month the quarry at Nord Vue near Penrith has been transformed into a full-scale Trials arena which awaits the crowds of spectators who will enjoy the awesome sections created by current Extreme Enduro superstar and former British Trials Champion Graham Jarvis.

Team ‘Great Britain’ have a genuine change of success in their home event, the last round of the 2012 WTC Series. In the Youth category, Bradley Cox has performed consistently well all year and can mathematically still win the championship. Jack Sheppard is still battling back from injury but will be hoping for his best result of the year in the Junior class. James Dabill, Michael Brown, Jack Challoner and Alexz Wigg are all striving for places high on the leader board and it is hope that the home support will bring the best out of them. Toni Bou’s runaway sixth World title has already been confirmed, but the remaining World Championship standings will not be decided until Sunday evening, so there is everything to play for.

Course construction is almost complete with significant changes made from when the event was last held in Cumbria. The famous Red Bull Arch will feature over the Lloyd sponsored Section 2, creating a thrilling spectacle in what will be an extremely difficult part of the course. Equally gripping for spectators will be Section 11, which features the terrifying leap through the tree. This obstacle had to be tamed down by the Section Inspector in 2009 as it was the first section on that course, but this time the riders should be well into their stride by the time they reach it. The well-laid-out, compact venue means all 15 sections are easy to walk around in less than 15 minutes, and the banked spectator areas offer excellent viewing into the main arena.

Whether you are brand-new to the sport or an experienced Trials enthusiast, there will be plenty going on in the trade village, a chance to see new bikes (including the new 2013 Beta and the recently launched Jotagas) a range of casual clothing, trials accessories and not to mention a great range of refreshment outlets and a licensed bar. The first riders go out at 09:30, with the presentation following each day’s results at 16:15. With free on-site parking and tickets priced at £25 a day for adults, £15 for 5 – 18 year-olds and under-5s free, this offers a great-value day or weekend out and the chance to see world-class competitors in a highly-skilled and exciting sport at close quarters.

penrith raga in articleFor fans looking to enjoy a full weekend of quality motor sport and great entertainment, camping is still available from Thursday 26th July. The Nord Vue venue is well drained and the ground has been untroubled by recent weather - let’s hope for the return of a proper British summer!
