Toni Bou and Takahisa Fujinami (Both riding Montesa Cota 4RT bikes) won the top two positions on the first day of the British Trial Grand Prix, penultimate event in the World Championship, held this Saturday. This has been Toni Bou's tenth victory of the season and second consecutive double victory of the Montesa riders after that of the Italian Grand Prix, an event in which the plurichampion left both the world title for riders and for manufacturers (Montesa) decided.
On a selective terrain with the added difficulty of intermittent rain during the first part of the race, Toni Bou again displayed his exultant shape, dominating the first lap authoritatively, despite the four points for excess time taken to finish it. Takahisa Fujinami also displayed a very solid performance, equalling the score of his teammate in the second lap and thus ensuring his second place.
Francesc Moret rounded off the positive day for Montesa by winning in the Junior category after a close finish, which was decided by the greatest number of zeroes in the zones. Moret regained the second position in the general classification and tomorrow he will defend his chance of becoming sub champion.
Toni Bou: “With the championship decided, today has been a different day for me. I was under no added pressure while competing and I was riding on a very difficult trial course - which is the type I like. I made some absurd mistakes, but I achieved a victory of the kind that really satisfies me”.
Takahisa Fujinami: “I'm quite satisfied with this second position and the second consecutive double victory for the team. I improved significantly on the second lap, with an equal score to Toni's. The errors on the first lap were a pity, and gave me some points that I was unable to recover”.
