Toni Bou (Montesa Cota 4RT) is still leader of the Trial World Championship after finishing second on the first day of the United States Grand Prix. The world plurichampion has a two-point lead over the second in the classification, a position that was occupied by Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa Cota 4RT) at the beginning of third event in the world championship, and who finished fifth in this event. Montesa still leads the classification by manufacturer.
The event consisted of three laps on a track with 12 very simple zones, conditions that made it practically impossible to recover any points lost. Toni Bou´s mistake on the first lap and on the third definitively stopped him from obtaining a victory in the event, something he had been fighting for up to that moment. Takahisa Fujinami saw how in the very first lap his opportunity to repeat the victory of the previous event faded away.
Toni Bou: “A very easy race where I didn´t feel well", is how he summarised the event. I made a couple of mistakes and paid dear for them. What's positive is that my second position gave me some very valuable points to continue leading the world championship. It's clear that this year isn't going to be easy for anyone, and three different winners in the three events held up to now are good proof of this”.
Takahisa Fujinami: “I began the event with lots of enthusiasm to repeat my victory and I suppose the pressure got the better of me. I simply didn't do well. All I can say is that I must do better tomorrow and I'm goingto do whatever's possible for that purpose”.
