Toni Bou and Takahisa Fujinami (Both riding Montesa Cota 4RT bikes) maintain second and third position respectively in the general classification of the Trial World Championship, after the fifth scoring event, held this Saturday. Toni Bou finished second on the initial day of the Grand Prix of Andorra and Takahisa Fujinami lost the fourth position by the least number of zeros in the 36 zones of the event, 18 per lap. Montesa continues leading the classification by manufacturer.
The struggle between Toni Bou and the winner of this event was intense, having finished the first lap with only two points difference between them (including two each of them received due to excess time) and another in the second lap. Takahisa Fujinami was the only participant in the top five unpenalised for excess time taken to complete the first lap, but a couple of mistakes in the final stretches of the second lap left him in fourth position.
Toni Bou: “It's difficult to build up a lead in this type of event, with lots of zones that are mostly quite easy. The controllers were strict and that's positive, but in general the trial was too easy. As I've said before, I don't like the new regulations and I find it difficult to adapt to them. In these conditions, the idea is to make as few mistakes as you can and to be as constant as possible in your results”.
Takahisa Fujinami: “I began with a feeling of physical tension and in the third zone I confirmed that the controllers were very strict. So I had to change my riding style, which explains that on the contrary to my main rivals, I finished the first lap within the permitted time. I felt better on the second lap, but two mistakes almost at the end cost me one position”.
The second day of the Grand Prix in Andorra will take place tomorrow.
