Toni Bou (Montesa Cota 4RT) remains in the lead of the general classification of the Trial World Championship after finishing second in the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic, held this Sunday. With four events to go, the Montesa rider is two points ahead of his closest rival. Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa Cota 4RT) finished sixth and now occupies fourth position in the general classification. Montesa maintains its position as leading manufacturer.
The easiness of the zones in this trial contrasted with the high selectivity of the event held the previous Sunday in the Italian town of Barzio, where Toni Bou achieved his fourth victory of the current season. The world plurichampion maintained his options to victory until the last moment, while on the contrary, Takahisa Fujinami was far behind in in first zones.
Toni Bou: “I consider that we cannot decide the world championship in events as unselective as this and with zone officers making mistakes, which is what happened today. There are four events to go and I hope they are more demanding and that the controls are correct. I've got nothing more to say”.
Takahisa Fujinami: “I had a bad day. The bike ran perfectly but my head didn't. I started off very badly, with two fives in the first three zones and on a trial as easy as today's, that's very important. I was totally disoriented and the only thing I can be relatively satisfied with is the third lap, when it was too late to aspire to anything better”.
The Grand Prix of the Czech Republic has been the last of the season to be held in a single day. The next World Trial Championship event, the penultimate, will be the British Grand Prix on July 27th and 28th.
