Jorge Casales Aims To Fight Back In Portugal

jorge casales world portugal preview 1The 2015 FIM Trial World Championship has not been easy for Jorge Casales – Beta with his season being wrecked before it had even begun properly. A broken bone in his left foot sustained during the second day of the opening Grand Prix in Japan back in April left the likable young Spanish rider on the sidelines until round five in France come late June. The twenty-year-old from Vigo, Spain was tipped by many in the paddock to be a potential threat to the well established top five this year prior to his nasty injury, but instead he has returned to the series playing catch up and looking to at least finish the season inside the top ten in the general standings as the series resumes in Portugal this weekend.

Jorge’s much welcomed return to the 2015 campaign high in the French mountains for the fifth round of nine did not prove to be a dream come back for the former FIM Junior Trial World Championship winner as he placed eighth and ninth over the two days of tough competition with him obviously still being in some pain and discomfort despite riding in a specially prepared protective left boot. Not deterred by either his initial results nor the potential of on going damage to his yet fully healed foot, Casales showed his depth of character as he finished fifth and then seventh on Saturday and Sunday in Andorra just a week later.

The short break in the relentless schedule of the 2015 FIM Trial World Championship, which had seen five GPs in just a six week period as a frustrated Jorge watched helplessly as the season passed him by, provided some extra healing time and the opportunity to spend some much needed hours back on the bike ahead of the US Grand Prix. Casales’ continued determination and resolve to return to full fitness and to re-find his best form paid off as the Beta rider stepped onto the podium on the opening day in America to record a career best result. Whilst unable to match his performance on the second day in the US, seventh spot on his last outing now sees him on the edge of claiming a place inside the top ten come the end of the year.

2014 was Casales first season in the World Pro class and he certainly made his presence felt as he ended the year ranked seventh amongst the more established names of the series. Jorge started his top-level campaign with immediate effect as he finished ninth on the opening day of the championship in Australia. jorge casales world portugal preview 2He followed this up the very next day with an even more impressive seventh spot to mark what was a dream debut GP in the elite category for the young Spanish rider.

Prior to his recent rostrum finish in the US, Casales best result came midway through 2014 when he secured fourth position on the French island of Corsica at the European Grand Prix. Consistency was the key to the Beta rider’s first season success, as he never placed lower than ninth over the twelve counting days. By the close of the 2014 campaign Jorge found himself just six points shy of James Dabill and sixth place in the final general standings, however being ranked seventh was still a great achievement for the quietly spoken Spanish competitor.

There is no doubt that the recent summer pause in this year’s series will have assisted Casales’ fight back, with the extended break giving him further time to heal and reacquaint himself with his more normal training programme. With this in mind Jorge will know that two strong showings in Paços de Ferreira / Santo Tirso, Portugal this weekend at the penultimate round of the 2015 FIM Trial World Championship will give him a place inside the top ten ready for what he hopes will be an injury free 2016 season.
